Joke de Vries uitgezwaaid bij Caesar

Maar liefst 18 jaar is Joke, samen met Kiki en Pascale, het visitekaartje van Caesar. Als eerste aanspreekpunt bij de receptie, staat zij iedere bezoeker met een lach te woord. Vrijdag 28 oktober voor het laatst, want zij verlaat Caesar na bijna twee decennia. Iedere werkdag van Joke start om 08.30 uur waar zij even bijkletst met de dames van de catering en schoonmaak, onder het genot van een kop koffie. Tussen het harde werken door worden er een paar puzzelstukken toegevoegd op de tafel in de lobby. Maar bovenal staat zij voor iedereen klaar, voor een gezellig praatje of advies.

Een nieuw begin

“In 2004 zag ik een advertentie staan waarin de Caesar Groep op zoek was naar een receptioniste. Daar reageerde ik op door een pen en papier te pakken en mijn sollicitatiebrief te schrijven. Ik werd uitgenodigd voor een gesprek en mij werd verzocht om een formulier in te vullen,  een soort persoonlijkheidstest. Niet veel later kreeg ik een uitnodiging voor een tweede gesprek. Dat had ik niet verwacht en ook was ik een beetje verbaasd, want een eerste ‘gesprek’ had eigenlijk helemaal nooit plaatsgevonden”.

“Bij het tweede gesprek werd duidelijk dat ik een nul-uren contract kreeg aangeboden. Zonder enige ervaring kreeg ik het vertrouwen voor deze baan bij Caesar. Ik werkte voorheen in de horeca, maar door de onregelmatige diensten was ik wel toe aan meer regelmaat. Een fijne bijkomstigheid was dat Caesar voor mij praktisch om de hoek zat. Ik was super trots, dat ik ondanks mijn horeca-achtergrond, toch werd aangenomen”.

“Zeker in het begin was het behoorlijk wennen, want er kwam heel veel op mij af. Maar toch vond ik al gauw mijn draai binnen Caesar.  Ik leerde mijn collega’s en mijn werkzaamheden steeds beter kennen en dat sterkte ook mijn gevoel dat ik de juiste beslissing had genomen om van baan te  veranderen. Met veel geduld ben ik ingewerkt, waarvoor ik heel dankbaar ben”.

“Het grootste gedeelte van de dag werkten we met twee receptionistes aan de Zonnebaan. Toen konden we nog gewoon roken achter de balie. Later, toen we buiten moesten roken, deden we dat stiekem in de postkamer. Dat kun je je haast niet voorstellen hè? Het was een heel andere tijd”.

Verzamelpand aan de Zonnebaan

Toen Joke startte zag Caesar er nog heel anders uit. Caesar was gevestigd in een verzamelpand aan de Zonnebaan. Er zaten ongeveer 12 tot 15 andere bedrijven in dat pand. Ook toen had Caesar al enkele bedrijven onder zich en er werd voor ieder bedrijf bezoek ontvangen en telefoontjes aangenomen. Het receptieteam bestond toentertijd uit zes dames. Het team werd opgesplitst toen Caesar verhuisde naar het kantoorpand aan de Janssoniuslaan, waar wij vandaag de dag nog steeds gevestigd zijn. Vanaf dat punt vormden Kiki, Pascale en Joke met zijn drieën een team: de tantes van Caesar.

“Ik ben trots op het team met Pascale en Kiki. We vullen elkaar zo goed aan. Zoals Hans weleens zegt: ‘jullie zijn water, aarde en vuur’. Als we alle drie hetzelfde zouden zijn, ging het nooit werken”.

Andere tijden

“Alles om ons heen verandert, zo ook mijn werkzaamheden. Frankeerden we bij de receptie toen de post nog zelf, nu gaat dat bijna allemaal digitaal. Daarnaast waren er ook veel zaken om te kopiëren. Terwijl we nu streven naar een “paperless office”. In het nieuwe pand vielen sommige taken weg. Iedere medewerker kreeg een eigen laptop en telefoon, dus veel minder telefoontjes voor ons. Toen moesten wij onze functie opnieuw gaan bekleden. We konden zelf ontdekken wat er nog meer te doen was, zoals bijvoorbeeld verjaardagskaarten schrijven of kerstpakketten uitdelen. De diversiteit van het werk maakt het leuk en interessant en dat is ook de reden dat ik hier zo lang ben blijven werken”.

Zelfvertrouwen vergroten

In al die jaren heeft Joke zich ook op persoonlijk vlak ontwikkeld. Ze vertelt: “Ik heb mijn verlegenheid overwonnen bij Caesar. Ik was eerst veel stiller en meer introvert, maar nu ben ik meer uit mijn schulp gekropen.  Ook heb ik geleerd om van me af te bijten in bepaalde situaties. Als je onzeker bent, geef je niet zo snel tegengas, dus ik moest echt leren daarmee om te gaan”.

Afscheid nemen bij Caesar

Ik ga de Caesarianen het meest missen. De praatjes die je even maakt tussendoor. Op kantoor heb ik veel contact met een veel jongere generatie. Natuurlijk ben ik niet grootgebracht met de computer, dus hier kon ik mooi mijn vragen stellen over bepaalde (technische) dingen. Privé heb ik meer contact met de “oudere” generatie, wat maakte dat ik in twee werelden terecht kwam. Dat vond ik echt heel leuk”.

Voor Jokes afscheid werd er een karaokefeest georganiseerd. Zij werd uitgezwaaid door tientallen (oud-)collega’s en familie onder het genot van een hapje en een drankje. Op het feest kreeg Joke verschillende cadeaus, waaronder een luxe koffiemachine, een puzzel met haar karikatuur én het ‘JOKE’ magazine.

Joke, bedankt voor je geweldige inzet bij Caesar. We wensen je veel geluk met wat er op jouw pad komt!
